Our Success Story
From Auntie Afia (the Hostess)
With the help of my sponsors SSB BANK LTD, I have been able to produce good quality programmes non-stop since July 1999 that has created awareness on issues concerning women and children that is aired every Tuesday at 8.00pm Ghana time on GTV (Ghana Television) with good resource persons.
I must say with pride and to the Glory of God that Mmaa Nkommo is the only programme on GTV that has been sponsored by an organization for four years without break. It is quite an achievement when Ghanaian newspapers review Television programmes, in Ghana every week, Mmaa Nkommo is rated as an unmissable programme. It is a joy to see people rushing home on Tuesday evenings to watch Mmaa Nkommo. In the year 2000 around August and September, just when the programme was a year old, it won two national awards and recognition award.

The Public
Polio Crippled 5 Children
I must also say with joy that, through the programme, we discovered a woman whose five out of six children are crippled as a result of Polio. The plight of this woman who died in February 2000 was brought to light on the 17/10/2000 edition of Mmaa Nkommo. The topic discussed was on Polio. The death of this woman rendered these children homeless. A sister of their mother who is taking care of them is also jobless and even if she is working cannot leave these cripples and work since taking care of them is a 24hr job.
There was tremendous response after the programme. Immediately, a benevolent, Women Society called "Onyame ye odo" (God is love) presented them with wheel chairs, clothing and cash donations. Donations from groups and individuals for their up keep are still welcome.

Surgery
Another success story is that INNER WHEEL GHANA INTERNATIONAL has provided Three Million Cedis ¢3,000,000 needed for surgery of a six months old baby who is a hermaphrodite and whose plight was discussed on the 3/10/2000 edition of the programme. Donations are still pouring in through Mmaa Nkommo for this poor baby. We hope to chalk more successes and recognitions in the years ahead.
